Botox

Wrinkle Reducing Treatment

A woman receives a facial injection from a skincare specialist in a clinical setting.

Botulinum toxin type A (Botox), commonly known as anti-wrinkle injections, are a type of wrinkle reduction treatment that has revolutionised our approach to facial ageing. Through the dynamic movement of facial muscles, unwanted lines and wrinkles begin to appear on the face and neck. This anti-ageing treatment works by injecting tiny amounts of Botox into specific muscles, causing the muscles to relax. Botox was one of the first safe and effective anti-aging treatments and it is still the most requested aesthetic treatment due to its effectiveness at keeping lines and wrinkles at bay, resulting in an all round complexion refreshment. Not only does Botox help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, if started early enough, it can also help prevent wrinkles from forming. For mature clients, they are effective at softening existing lines, creating a refreshed and more youthful appearance.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, offer the ability to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours and hydrate the skin for a revitalised look.

Cosmetic injectables can benefit people of all ages and genders.

Benefits of Injectable Treatments

  • Non-surgical and Minimally Invasive: Achieve a youthful appearance without the need for surgery.

  • Quick and Convenient: Sessions take just 60 minutes with no downtown required.

  • Immediate and Noticeable Results: See improvements within 7-10 days.

  • Customisable Treatments: Target specific areas for a tailored look.

  • Long-Lasting Effects: Results typically last 4-6 months, making it a cost-effective solution.

  • Prevents Wrinkles: Regular Botox can slow the formation of new lines and wrinkles.

  • Medical Benefits: Effective in treating conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraines.

How do Botox treatments differ between men and women?

Botox treatments differ for men and women mainly due to differences in facial anatomy, muscle strength and desired outcomes and personal preferences.

Variations in treatment

  • Target areas: Women typically focus on crow's feet, forehead lines, and frown lines, while men most commonly seek treatment for deeper forehead and frown lines to appear more relaxed and refreshed.

  • Dosage: Men generally have larger and stronger facial muscles, requiring higher doses of Botox to achieve results comparable to those of women. For example, men may need 50 to 80 units for the upper face, compared to 30 to 50 units for women.

  • Aesthetic goals: While both genders desire a natural look, men often prefer more subtle effects that preserve some facial movement to avoid looking ‘frozen’ or ‘overdone’. Women may opt for a smoother, more comprehensive wrinkle reduction.

  • Injection technique: The injection pattern may be adjusted to accommodate gender-specific features. For example, injectors avoid raising the eyebrow arch for men, which is often a desired outcome for women.

  • Duration: The effects of Botox, which usually last between three and six months, can be influenced by individual factors like metabolism and muscle activity. Some sources suggest men may metabolise Botox slightly faster due to larger muscles, potentially needing more frequent touch-ups.

Dermal Fillers

Volume Enhancing Treatment

Dermal fillers are a safe and affordable treatment designed to restore lost volume, smooth fine lines and enhance facial contours resulting in a more youthful facial appearance.

Fillers replace the skin’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid which diminishes with age. Composed of hyaluronic acid or other natural substances, dermal fillers work by plumping the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and volume loss.

Lip fillers and cheek fillers are some of our most popular treatments, helping clients to feel more confident in their appearance.

Some of the reasons facial volume diminishes with age…..

  • Bone resorption: The underlying facial bone structure shrinks and recedes, which causes the support for muscles and skin to diminish. The eye sockets and nose structure enlarge, contributing to a sunken appearance around the eyes.

  • Loss and descent of fat pads: In younger years, fat is evenly distributed in a series of pads across the face. With age, these pads deflate, clump together, and move downward due to gravity, leading to sagging and jowls.

  • Decreased collagen and elastin: Starting in our late twenties, the body's production of collagen and elastin—the proteins responsible for skin's firmness and elasticity—declines. The skin loses its structural support, becoming thinner and more fragile.

  • Muscle changes: Over time, facial muscles also lose volume and elasticity. The "elevator" muscles that hold tissue up weaken, while the "depressor" muscles become stronger, further contributing to sagging features.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers offer a safe, non-surgical solution to reverse these effects by replacing lost volume and restoring youthful contours. Benefits for your clients include:

  • Immediate results: Most dermal fillers, particularly those made with hyaluronic acid, provide instant volume and plumping.

  • Smoothing wrinkles and folds: By adding volume beneath the surface, fillers smooth static wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

  • Restoring facial contours: Fillers can re-establish definition in areas like the cheeks, chin, and jawline, which can become flatter or sag with age.

  • Minimally invasive and minimal downtime: The treatment is performed with fine needles or cannulas and requires little to no recovery time, allowing clients to return to their normal activities quickly.

  • Long-term skin benefits: Certain fillers, like poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite, actively stimulate the body's natural collagen production over time, leading to healthier, more elastic skin.

  • Enhanced confidence: By refreshing a client's appearance, fillers can have a significant positive impact on their self-esteem.
